One of the most well-known cakes from the world of baking. The Sachertorte originated in Vienna, Austria, and dates back to 1832. The recipe for this cake was created by Franz Sacher, the 16-year-old apprentice of a pastry chef who had been commissioned by the Austrian Royal Family’s official pastry chef. During a bout of sickness, he was forced to leave young Sacher in charge of preparing a dessert for the guests of the Chancellor of the Austrian Empire, Prince von Metternich.

The end result was the famous Sachertorte, which has become an iconic product of the city and captured the imaginations of many tourists who want to visit the Café Sacher to sample this dessert.
